I'm glad to see our baby Ankoder reported by the latest AWS newsletter :)
As a result we received lots of mails from all over the world (kill me lots of time to reply :), exciting.

Microsoft release F#
Jan 发表于 2008-10-04 23:03:36
Interesting functional language - maybe Sun should release some thing like "jFunctional"? FP will be hot in the next decade, I believe. But lisp is dead, already.

Recursion Definition
Jan 发表于 2008-09-26 14:01:42
Hofstadter's book elevates recursion (in the broadest sense of self-reference) to exalted heights, leading to Andrew Plotkin's recursive definition of recursion: "If you already know what recursion is, just remember the answer. Otherwise, find someone who is standing closer to Douglas Hofstadter than you are; then ask him or her what recursion is."

Show my workspace
Jan 发表于 2008-09-25 23:05:10

Those software you can see: archlinux, xmonad, swiftweasel, vim, screen, weechat, rxvt-unicode, pidgin, dzen, Breeze Tissue
Those hardware you can see: LG 21" widescreen lcd, lenovo thinkpad x61, microsoft wireless 2000, Palm
Finally I throw WMII away and turn to xmonad. The only reason is that WMII has very poor(nearly none) support to multi display (xrandr), which is perfectly supported by xmonad. Xmonad is faster than WMII+ruby, since xmonad.hs will be compiled to binary file by GHC instead of executing by interpreter.
The whole system is running on my X61 box, the 21" lcd connects to the laptop, make a more larger virtual screen together with X61's lcd. This can be achieved easily with xrandr. Now I can always keep an eye on irc and pidgin :-) For comfortable I bought microsoft wireless keyboard+mouse (works perfectly with linux, amazing), though I love thinkpad's trackpoint very much. The reason I use X61 instead of a desktop box as the core is that I don't need to synchronize between office pc and my laptop now, and I can use the big wide screen at the same time.
Haskell, xmonad's implemtation language, has an interesting static type system. Seems I'm still prefer static type and compiler after long use of ruby :-)

Amazon will provide CDN service
Jan 发表于 2008-09-19 13:55:54
Maybe we who live in china could connect to AWS as fast as light one day? A really good news.
Dear AWS Customer:
Many of you have asked us to let you know ahead of time about features and services that are currently under development so that you can better plan for how that functionality might integrate with your applications. To that end, we are excited to share some early details with you about a new offering we have under development here at AWS -- a content delivery service.
This new service will provide you a high performance method of distributing content to end users, giving your customers low latency and high data transfer rates when they access your objects. The initial release will help developers and businesses who need to deliver popular, publicly readable content over HTTP connections. Our goal is to create a content delivery service that:
* Lets developers and businesses get started easily - there are no minimum fees and no commitments. You will only pay for what you actually use.
* Is simple and easy to use - a single, simple API call is all that is needed to get started delivering your content.
* Works seamlessly with Amazon S3 - this gives you durable storage for the original, definitive versions of your files while making the content delivery service easier to use.
* Has a global presence - we use a global network of edge locations on three continents to deliver your content from the most appropriate location.
You'll start by storing the original version of your objects in Amazon S3, making sure they are publicly readable. Then, you'll make a simple API call to register your bucket with the new content delivery service. This API call will return a new domain name for you to include in your web pages or application. When clients request an object using this domain name, they will be automatically routed to the nearest edge location for high performance delivery of your content. It's that simple.
We're currently working with a small group of private beta customers, and expect to have this service widely available before the end of the year. If you'd like to be notified when we launch, please let us know by clicking here.
Sincerely,
The Amazon Web Services Team

从攻壳到苹果核到vexille(好像是这么拼来着),统统都是生化人的故事。
